In conjunction with the World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) celebration theme this year which is Resilient Landscape, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) held the Inauguration Ceremony of MPHS's first Compost Production Center at Jalan Kenanga 9, Bukit Beruntung on 14 April 2022.
The ceremony was officiated by the President of MPHS, Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd, attended by KDEB Head of Operations Hulu Selangor Branch, Al Kamarizal Abd Latif, Deputy President of MPHS, Awaluddin Zakaria, members of the council as well as the director and department head of MPHS.
Mohd Hasry said, every year the waste produced by the maintenance of shade trees by the Council approaches the figure of 450 tons per month. This waste is then sent to the Sungai Sabai disposal center. While the grass cutting waste produced is close to 109 tons per month. This conventional method is not in line with the MPHS policy towards sustainable township through efficient and effective governance.

best to ensure that wood chips are composted more effectively, he added.
With the existence of this Compost Production Center, it is hoped that landscape maintenance waste and grass cutting waste will no longer be thrown into landfills and processed to produce compost. Composting itself is an alternative system and low-cost biological decomposition process to existing solid waste management systems.
