MPHS SUCCEEDED IN COLLECTING 312.04KG OF USED COOKING OIL THROUGH UCO'S SIDINA PROGRAM.
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council is organizing the Used Oil Recycling Program under the Waste Jai Fund Program (SIDINA) which is the branding for the recycling program under the Solid Waste Management Department (JPSPPA) MPHS located at the Recycling Center, Kuala Kubu Bharu on 8 June 2023 .
The SIDINA program includes all recyclable items that can be a causeincome to the community and is one of the council's initiatives in promoting the circular economy. One of the items that can be recycled is used cooking oil or UCO (Used Cooking Oil).
Today, MPHS cooperates with Trash4Cash, a company registered with the Malaysian Oil Palm Board (MPOB) and the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) in organizing the purchase of used cooking oil under the UCO SIDINA Program. The purchase price offered today is RM 2.30/kg.
This program, which was held for the first time, was specifically for the community around Kuala Kubu Bharu. As a result, 45 people brought their UCO with a cumulative total of 312.04 kilograms. The results of the feedback encouraging this program will be implemented monthly at 5 MPHS recycling centers which are in Hulu Bernam, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Batang Kali and Bukit Beruntung (Adenium & Jalan Bunga Kertas).
UCO will often be flushed down the sink or drain will cause the drain to stink and attract LILATI insects (Cockroaches, Flies and Mice). In addition, the discarded UCO will flow into rivers and pollute the environment. However, with the latest technology UCO can be used in producing bio-diesel oil. Accordingly, the community is encouraged to collect UCOs that will be purchased by companies registered under the Malaysian Oil Palm Board (MPOB).
Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd, the President of MPHS called for the community and households in Hulu Selangor, especially the hawkers who sell fried food, to take this opportunity to collectively collect used cooking oil to prevent it from being thrown away as it can pollute the environment.
In addition, this noble practice can also generate additional income for households, especially for the B40 group. The MPHS will continue to commit to providing a platform to encourage recycling practices among the community as an effort to achieve the mission of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Low Carbon City Framework (LCCF), he added.
