KUALA LUMPUR, 28 JAN: The operating hours of all business sectors allowed throughout the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be extended until 10pm starting tomorrow, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob.
He said among them are grocery stores, convenience stores, pharmacies, daily necessities stores, pet food stores, laundries and glasses stores that were announced earlier.
"Before this, all sectors (involved) were allowed to operate until 8pm. After the Ministry of Health made a risk assessment, the National Security Council meeting agreed to extend the business hours of restaurants and other shops until 10pm.
"We know there is a lot of confusion that makes it difficult in terms of enforcement due to varying operating hours and applications from the business sector involved to extend their business operation period," he said at a press conference on the development of the MCO at Wisma Pertahanan today.
Ismail Sabri also said the forestry and timber sector as well as the chain involving logging and others will operate as usual starting tomorrow.
He said the government is also enacting an Emergency Ordinance to increase the number of compounds against individuals and companies found to be in breach of standard operating procedures (SOP) during the MCO.
Ismail Sabri also called on the public to increase self-discipline in obeying the prescribed instructions and not waiting until the authorities take action.
Commenting on compliance with the SOP, he said the Royal Malaysian Police arrested 494 individuals who witnessed a total of 464 people being compounded, 29 remanded and one on bail.
