Media Statement Copper Smelting Plant Seized by MDHS

A copper smelting factory in the Zuhrah Industrial area, Rasa was seized when it was found to be operating without a license in an integrated operation carried out by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DOE) and the District Headquarters, Royal Malaysian Police, Kuala New Fort.

When the operatives arrived at the location, the main door of the factory was still locked using the padlock that MDHS had previously installed. However, operatives found that some foreign workers were running away and the premises were operating as usual.

The results of the inspection found that there were several pallets of copper ingots that had been completed in the process and were placed near the factory building. Besides,

PDRM members also found 16 foreign workers consisting of Chinese and Indian nationals in the worker's room inside the factory area. All employees were gathered for inspection of travel documents (passports).

This follow-up inspection is carried out in the premises area using the provisions of Bylaws 35 and 36, Trade, Business and Industrial Bylaws (MDHS) 2007.

The operatives have confiscated 3 forklifts, 2 generator sets, 20 copper ingots and several types of equipment used to melt the copper involved.

All these items have been confiscated based on by-law 38(1), Trade, Business and Industry by-law (MDHS) 2007.

In addition to that, the operatives have also submitted a notice of instructions to stop operations to the management representative of the factory.
